Funding Availble for Schools to Enable Access to CPD Opportunities

Devon Music Education Hub has allocated funding to support schools with their music education CPD with the opportunity to apply for support to attend courses and events as well as a contribution towards their cover costs when colleagues access Music CPD opportunities.

It is hoped that this initiative will enable more colleagues to make the most of CPD and training opportunities. This support is available to support a variety of CPD opportunities such as organised courses, as well as networking events,  opportunities to share good practice and more!

Please make contact with the Babcock LDP Music Lead for your area to confirm the support is in line with the Music Education plans for your community.

Chorister Outreach - with Braunton Learning Community

Devon's pupils also had the chance to perform at more prestigious venues as the Devon Chorister Outreach Project reached the Braunton Learning Community and they came together for a celebratory concert at Exeter Cathedral. This long standing partnership project has visited 90% of Devon schools and is a key priority of the DMEH Singing Strategy.
A teacher from one particpating school said. "It was wonderful. The teachers and helpers all supported each other and there was a feeling of mutual appreciation and community. Feedback from families was all fantastic and they were really grateful of the opportunity."
The project will be followed up with the development of an inclusive Braunton transition choir for the area, and more advanced young singers will have the chance to join the North Devon arm of the Devon County Junior Choir, another initiative supported by the DMEH Singing Strategy to bring advanced singing opportunities and specialist coaching to this more rural part of Devon.

Plough Junior Jazz - Torrington

Plough Junior Jazz, which meets every Saturday at The Plough Arts Centre Torrington has had a busy term.  We held an open morning workshop in September  had a good attendance and gained some new members. We had a great morning introducing those who came to improvising and playing along with us on some cool and inspiring jazz.
We also visited Great Torrington Secondary School to perform an afternoon concert to years 7 and 8. SNot only did we play but also talked at length about instruments, and how playing in a jazz group works and the aspects of performance in a jazz context. We are finishing the term with our regular performance in The Plough Cafe on the 19th which helps also to raise funds for the Plough which makes us feel we are giving something back to them for all their support.
