BBC TEN PIECES IN DEVON

The BBC Ten Pieces initiative has kickstarted a wide range of creative work in schools across the county - including a DMEH project in partnership with North Devon Theatres, pictured above. You can read more about the North Devon Ten Pieces Celebration here.

One Devon school was one of just 4 selected from across the country to share their Ten Pieces inspired work at the BBC Ten Pieces Prom at the Royal Albert Hall.  Pupils from Withycombe Raliegh Primary School in Exmouth worked on a movement-based response called '6 out of 10', responding to six out of the ten pieces of music – In the Hall of the Mountain King, Zadok the Priest, The Firebird, Beethoven's Symphony No. 5, Connect It and Mars from 'The Planets'.

You can see the school's orginal submission by following this link and highlights of the BBC Ten Pieces Prom can be viewed here

TEN PIECES SCREENINGS WITH DEVON MUSIC EDUCATION HUB
DMEH will be offering FREE screenings of the Ten Pieces Primary and the NEW Ten Pieces Secondary film on Monday 9th and Tuesday 10th November at Exeter Great Hall. There will also be the chance to enjoy some performances from Devon ensembles. More details to follow - please put the date in your diary! If you're new to the BBC Ten Pieces initiative follow this link for more information.

DMEH FUNDING AVAILABLE TO SUPPORT MUSIC CPD & TRAINING

Funding to Help with Cover Costs   Devon Music Education Hub has allocated funding to support schools with a contribution towards their cover costs when colleagues access Music CPD opportunities. It is hoped that this initiative will enable more colleagues to make the most of CPD and training opportunities. This support is available for the area Music Education & Secondary Music Conferences advertised below, as well as other music CPD courses and events held during school time, from DMEH partner and other local, regional and national organisations.  Please make contact with the Babcock LDP Music Lead for your area to confirm the support. If you're not sure who the Music Lead is for your school, follow this link for details.

Funding to Support and Faciliate Other Music CPD Opportunites - Kagemusha Taiko
There is also allocated DMEH funding to support other Music CPD opportunities, including peer learning opportunties and support for colleagues to share good practice. The Music Lead team will confirm the process by which schools will be able to access this extra support.

One opportunity is 'Taiko for Teachers' with Kagemusha Taiko at their base in Hannah's at Seale Hayne. DMEH will provide financial support for a limited number of school staff to attend this course taking place on Saturday 24th October. Please follow this link for more information and email clair.mccoll@babcockinternational.com if you would like to book your place.

MESSAGE FOR SCHOOLS: DATA COLLECTION - ARTS COUNCIL ENGLAND

As colleagues are aware, Music Education Hubs are required to complete an Annual Return to Arts Council England (ACE) once a year. Continued funding of the Devon Music Education Hub depends on 'A completed, satisfactory annual submission', so we need your help to ensure that Devon is able to meet this criterion.   All Local Learning Communities and schools benefit from this funding and a completed data return is one of the conditions of the support.

By completing this information you are not only providing much needed data for ACE that brings strength to the argument for continued ring-fenced funding for music education initiatives, you are also enabling the local Devon Music Education Hub to provide the kind of support and experiences that you and your pupils value.  Your responses will feed into the DMEH plans and help us provide the support you need to make a tangible difference to musical development in your school community.

The full survey will be sent to you shortly for completion ahead of the deadline on Monday 5th October.
